I have written up another hat pattern ... this time in pdf format and this time its for babies, toddlers and children. The name tells all ... little hat with big wool ... Rowan Big Wool in fact.

Needles: 10mm straight
Yarn: 1 ball Rowan Big Wool
Useage: 70% of ball for child's hat, 60% of ball for toddler's hat and 40% of ball for baby's hat

You start from the top of the hat by casting on 8 stitches cast using 4.5mm dpn. Each row of the above grid is repeated 4 times to make a full hat. Change to 3.5mm dpn for the last rows (shaded in grey) and cast off on the final row.

I've used Lorna’s Laces, Fisherman yarn (1 x 500yd/227g hanks, 100% wool) ... Its actually not a full skein, just a bit I had left over from another project. My tension square was worked in stst on 4.5mm needles, 23 rows and 18 stitches per 10cm square.

I'm very happy with the final hat ... its on my head as I type.

I was getting bored of the pale blue scarf I was knitting, so introduced a deep red ... perhaps a bit radical ... but more interesting nonetheless. I intend to stitch red stripes up the scarf as well ... to help the red end of the scarf feel and look more at home ... don't let it be said that I don't care for my colour's feelings! The pattern is from a Rebecca magazine ... bit silly to buy a whole magazine packed with loads of patterns ... and use only the scarf pattern ... oh well.

I'm making a brooklyn tweed 'raspy' jersey for my beloved ... endless rounds of knitting ... I now understand why knitting is the new yoga ... I end up totally 'zen'ed out after 20 minutes. The aroha pillow is from native agent a wonderous store in Auckland NZ.
